Homecoming WeekendJune 27 to July 1, 2008 Homecoming will take place from Friday, June 27 through Tuesday, July 1. Events include a luncheon with a special guest speaker, a Downtown street festival, Art Walk, "Doors Open", and a tour of heritage buildings. A concert in Victoria Park will feature local musicians and bands. Additional weekend events will be announced in the very near future, as plans are finalized. The Homecoming Weekend will end with a bang -- at the Fergus Canada Day fireworks display. |

The Community Resource Centre of North and Centre Wellington is a non-profit organization
that provides services and programming for families and individuals. Through four specific
program areas, Outreach and Support Services, Ontario Early Years Programming, Licensed
Childcare and Community Volunteer Services, we are able to assist community members in
addressing the variety of challenges they may face as a result of varied life situations.
From finding transportation, offering parent workshops, organizing playgroups for children, to income tax filing and even finding a phone number or navigating a government directory, we are there to offer the support that is needed. With offices in Fergus, Arthur, and Harriston, and mobile services to reach everything in between, we are dedicated to responding to the needs of families and individuals while promoting self-sufficiency and a sense of community. |

Fergus Library |
|
The first library in Fergus was founded in 1835 by Adam Fergusson,his partner James
Webster, Alexander D. Fordyce, Mr. A. D. Ferrier, Hugh Black, James McQueen, and
George Wilson. Alexander D. Fordyce was the first Fergus librarian and the books
were kept in a room in his home. Fordyce later became the first Warden of Wellington County. In 1857 the free library became a 'Farmers and Mechanics' Institute. In 1862, the library was set up in a room in the Temperence Hall on St. Andrew Street West. In 1904, plans were initiated with Andrew Carnegie to erect a Carnegie Library in Fergus. The present Carnegie library was built in 1910. In January of 1999, the Fergus Public Library joined the Wellington County Library system. |

In 1986, the Fergus Truck Show was established as a one-time event to raise
funds for the Fergus & District Community Centre Complex Hall addition and
to introduce area residents to the trucking industry. Today the Fergus Truck
Show has grown to be North America’s largest truck show, both in paid attendance
and the number of the big truck ‘Show & Shine’ contestants. |

The Fergus Scottish Festival and Highland Games has enjoyed 59 years of success. Begun
by Alex Robertson, the games have had two locations, Victoria Park and more recently,
the Centre Wellington Community Sportsplex (Fergus). The Games exemplify all things
Scottish with a focus on heavy events, dancing, piping, clans and family interactive fun. |

The Centre Wellington Volunteer Fire Rescue Department has two stations based in Fergus and Elora. Emergency response in Centre Wellington operates on a three tiered response system, for this reason, the Fire Department is equipped to deal with various emergencies including water rescue, high level rescue, medical assistance, fire prevention, fire suppression as well as automobile accidents. |

For more than a century Groves has served its constituents in the same spirit of caring
and vision for which its founder, Dr. Abraham Groves, is known. His career was marked
by many medical firsts and Dr. Groves was one of the true pioneers of modern surgery. Dr. Groves opened the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Fergus in 1902. In 1932 he presented his life's work - his hospital - to the Village of Fergus. |
